bell ringers
About our bells
We have a full peal of 8 bells, the oldest in Scotland, restored in 2006. The tenor is 14-2-23 in F. An article by Peter Whyatt in the Ringing World 4988 (December 1 2006) gives the full story with pictures. You can hear our bells in action here Bells on Four (BBC Radio 4 17th April 2016)
When do we ring?
We ring for Sundays, weddings and other special services, and quarter and full peals for special events. Ringing is after the Sunday service, approximately 11:15 to 12 Noon (a bit later on the last Sunday in the month).
Practice nights are Monday 7.30-9pm (although we usually have a few weeks off during the Christian Aid Book Fair in May and the Edinburgh Festival in August). If you arrive after the start of the practice, we can easily hear knocks on the door during breaks in the ringing, and someone will come down to let you in as soon as possible.
Visitors
Visiting bands and new members are welcome. We are part of the Scottish Association of Change Ringers and the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers.
Please contact Bells Secretary Estella Haynes or Tower Captain Annie Brechin via the church office.
